Vietnam in HD

The History Channel Serves Up A Fitting And Personal Six Part Miniseries Tribute To Those Who Served During Vietnam
Emulating the formula that worked so successfully with its impressive "WWII in HD," the History Channel set its sights on a new generation of hero with "Vietnam in HD." All of the trademark production values are present including actual footage shot by soldiers in battle as well as high profile actors incorporated into dramatic vocal recreations. While all of the newly filmed material looks stellar in its HD presentation, the real Vietnam filmstock quality varies depending upon the source material. It has, however been cleaned and restored to an admirable degree and many of the images (as they were culled from private sources) have not been utilized before in other Vietnam projects. This found footage provides "Vietnam in HD" a real intimacy. The six part miniseries is both a harrowing and realistic look at the Vietnam conflict as well as a fitting tribute to the men who served. While few documentaries can hope to cover every angle of this complicated situation (and I'm sure...

Controversial War, Honorable Soldiers
Vietnam is my generation's war. It is hard to comprehend the young kids shooting the video presented in this DVD are now, like me, in their sixties. This DVD is not an in depth study of the war. It does not get into the reasons why this country became both mired in it, and torn apart by it. The Gulf of Tonkin is mentioned as the first step toward increasing U.S. involvement, but it does not discuss the controversy regarding legitimacy of the Tonkin incident. It doesn't mention Mai Lai, nor does it spend a lot of time discussing the reasons why the American public turned against the war. It is not meant to. This is the recollections of the young Americans who were on the ground, a nurse who served there and a P.O.W.'s wife. It does a great job of describing all the different hard fought engagements with the NVA, and the horror of it all. Many who went to Vietnam were volunteers, but many were draftees with no say in the matter. These young men served without caring about the politics...

A Series That Starts Out Strong, But Finishes with A Whimper
The series starts out strong with some vivid images and compelling stories that bring back strong personal memories of the early years of the Vietnam War. We really thought that once the U.S. military arrived in force it would be over within a year or so. I was in the fifth grade in 1965. Seven years later, in 1972, I was graduating from high school and facing the prospect of being drafted to fight in what appeared to be a never ending war.

I was impressed with the early episodes of this series, but it goes down hill beginning with episode 3. First, though the producers come up with some very good images of the war, they did not do their research very well. They show images of US Army infantrymen in combat while telling a story concerning the Marines on the DMZ. There are many examples of the film not matching the story being told. Second, by episode 3 they are starting to repeat the same film images over and over again. Third, there is virtually no mention of the other...

Jesus & His Times

Good Bible Study Material
The text is direct from the Revised Standard Version (KJV is available)as a voice over to the scenes. Depiction of Jesus' times are usually accurate. Occasionally they fall into the western depiction, but unless you are a purist it does not detract from the overall effect.

This is a set of 4 videos. There are scene extensions where (if it were television the commercial would come) the video can easily be stopped and discussion started. The nativity section is the most tedious. The others, especially the Palm Sunday, Easter portions are very well done. The crucifixion section is not one that I would show younger children as the agony is wrenching.

Overall for an adult Bible study of the Gospel of Luke, it is an excellent thought provoker and discussion starter.

how excellence prevailed
most excellent video on the life and the times that Jesus lived. it gives more insight into the era and the way people lived than any I have seen so far. this is a great and exciting video of the time and the life of Jesus

Authoritative Video
This video uses expanded footage from the "Jesus" film as the backdrop for narrating the Gospel of Luke, word for word from the Bible. It is an excellent resource for Bible teachers or for anyone who enjoys a visually meaningful but strictly biblical narration of Luke's gospel. It is easy to recommend this entire series for local churches, school libraries, and multi-media Bible teachers.

Dino Dan: Dino Trackers!

Full of episodes already shown on Nick Jr.
I bought this thinking it was going to be a movie or combination of episodes not shown on Nick Jr. I was wrong. There was only one episode on this DVD that my son hadn't seen 100 times on our DVR. He does LOVE all of the episodes, so if your child doesn't have episodes on DVR or has never seen one......this is a must. My son is captivated through all of the episodes. He started loving dinosaurs because of this show. It is very educational and worth the money, if your child hasn't already seen all of the episodes.

Good if you don't have Nick Jr
I agree with another reviewer--- If you DON'T have Nick Jr and your child hasn't already seen all of the episodes a million times, this is a good DVD. But this has been my son's favorite show since it came out, so he already knew all but one episode. We were both pretty disappointed. They should have a list of what's on the dvd... I assumed it was new stuff.

My boys love it.
We don't have cable so my boys have never seen it. It is a great show, terrible acting, but the kids love it.

Dutch

I'm Sorry, But I Like This Movie!
This 1991 John Hughes film was a gigantic dud at the box office and was critically panned by pretty much every critic. Well guess what?, I like it!. It's far from being great, but as far as guilty pleasures go, this one is a good one. Ed 'O' Neill plays Dutch Dooley, a normal, everyday schlub who is in a relationship with a well to do woman, played by Poltergeists' JoBeth Williams. Dutch volunteers to go get her son at a private school and bring him home for Thanksgiving. Easy as pie, right?. Well, no. The kid is an uptight, snobbish brat. The ride home is full of one disaster after another. Dutch and Doyle try desperatley to get home, while the two constantly bicker at each other. During this time, Doyle gets a good dose of reality thrown in his face. Many moments are actually quite serious. Your not expecting it. The funny momets are quite humorous. All the things Dutch does to Doyle is, I must say, pretty funny. Doyle is played by Ethan Randall, who went on to appear in "That...

Dutch - Funny, Touching, A Wonderful Film by all Standards!!
Ohhhh, this is a good one. The magnificent dueling performances by Ethan Embry and Ed O'Neill keep you glued to the screen like you're watching some crackerjack tennis match as the two battle back and forth.

Ed O'Neill plays Dutch, a wealthy professional who feels more at ease wearing a softened pair of corduroy pants while drinking a beer and eating pretzels than he does seeing an opera or visiting the local country club. He falls for JoBeth Williams' character, Natalie, the divorcee to a rich, snobby businessman -- the same man who has managed to turn their son Doyle against her. Knowing that he's going to "pop the question" soon, Dutch volunteers to go to Doyle's ritzy boarding school in Georgia to bring him home via car for the Thanksgiving holiday. By doing so, he's hoping that they will have a unique chance to bond and that the boy will be more loving to his mother.

Ohhhhh, Dutch....what were you thinking?? It's a nightmare!! From the moment they meet, the two are...

Ed O'Neill really can act, and this movie is excellent.
Two things. First, I think this movie is somewhat of a sleeper that many people overlook, may have heard a little bit about, caught once on cable, or totally forgotten. That's tragic. It's an awesome movie, and, even if it does resemble John Hughes' close movie with Steve Martin and John Candy ("Planes, Trains and Automobiles") only to the extent that it involves trying to get home for the holidays and a road trip, from that point, it's a totally different movie and really stands on its own.

Second, this movie shows that Ed O'Neill should never simply be thought of as simply the dad from "Married with Children." He is an amazing actor, and I could envision NOONE else having filled this role. He was perfect for it, and I totally could relate to him at every turn. He was truly a fella after my own heart.

The bottom line is that this simply a great movie with a great message. Something you can watch with your old mom and pop, and your bratty neice and nephew...

NY Ink

Pretty good show!
Being a fan of the original show when we first met Ami James, I was anxious to see how this show would play out and though it's pretty good so far, (I have a thing for Megan Massacre), Ami seems more quick to anger in this series than he was in "Miami". There's a lot of drama in the first season when a former friend Chris, is introduced at the last minute to join the crew. Those who watched the first season will remember Tim Hendricks who eerily resembles Edward Norton has now joined up with Ami as well as several other artists. All of them are incredibly talented but this show seems more focused on drama and complaining than actual art like "Miami" all in all it's still a good show though and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Doco-ink
I find no reason in skin-modifying also artists doing a job amuse with professionalism and imaginary.

For a general acquaintance with tattoo business brightest sides, nice NYC landscapes included.

ny ink
this was an interresting show to watch. yes there was alot of speculation on facebook that this show jst had too much drama in it. but to me, that jst made the show that much more better. there was alot of tense moments n it. it left me wanting more. not only did u c some gr8 art n it, there was gr8 stories frm customers, and drama happening with the crew. i dont usually buy shows like this 2 own, but this season i had 2 have.

Straw Dogs

Pretty Good
Okay so I know a lot of people are comparing this to the original version saying it's no good in comparison. I've never seen the original so this review is going to be specifically about this movie. I liked it.

Seriously I liked it. The characters are good, the motivation of each character is believable, and the situations are realistic enough that it could actually happen.

My only complaints about this movie are about the two female characters. The cheerleader girl and the wife of the main character.

***SPOILERS***

The cheerleader flirts with the mentally retarded guy even though she knows it'll get him in trouble and he'll get the crap beaten outta him by her father and the other washed up football guys. It's like she gets off on seeing him get his ass kicked. Also it's kinda confusing as to if he kills her by accident when he puts his hands over her face to stop her from screaming. I know her feet stop moving, but is that cuz she...

Powerful - never a dull moment
James Marsden plays David Sumner, a screenwriter from California, who makes the move to Mississippi with his girlfriend Amy(Kate Bosworth). This is her hometown, but its all too foreign to David. The secluded property and beautiful background seem an ideal place for him to finish work on his Stalingrad project. It doesn't take long for this thought to diminish from his mind.

As much as David tries to mix with the locals and feel a part of the community, theres always something that doesn't work. Theres several times in the film where he goes out of his way to be courteous, but the locals don't seem to like an outsider in their town. A rich, clean cut outsider to be precise. This film builds an ominous tone very well through the course of the story. While the film feeds off the differences between David and the locals, it also shows David changing in his own way later in the film. Amy's(Bosworth) ex-boyfriend Charlie (Skarsgard)enters the picture early and often in the young...

surprisingly good
I debated seeing this at the theater because the original was so dark and the critics had been so tough on this remake. I was surprised by how good it was. Friends with me also enjoyed seeing this film. Solid thriller type of story with a couple better than average acting performances from James Woods, Alexander Skarsgard, Dom Purcell.

NFL Two Minutes To Glory

William
Excellent DVD, very enjoyable. I recommend it highly, brings back a lot of memories, stuff like the Redskins-Cowboys 1979 season finale. The bonus feature of the original "NFL Game Of The Week" production of the Sea Of Hands Dolphins-Raiders '74 playoff game makes this worth the purchase price almost by itself, classic. Get this video if you're a big NFL fan, no matter who your team is.

145 minutes of exciting emotions!!
the best final drives in the history of the nfl enclosed in a thrilling dvd.
from unitas to montana, from elway to marino, from manning to brady.
end of the great comebacks from cowboys-reskins in the 1979 to giants-eagles in 2010. a superb dvd which also has 3 extra historians:
the ice bowl(6 min,) the payton drive(7 min.) and the fantastic "sea of hands" in 1974 from raiders and dolphins(22 min.)

Good but not great
No NFL Films production is bad but it would be nice if there was more coverage of noteworthy pre-Super Bowl era drives to glory. Each play of the legendary Johnny Unitas and Raymond Berry led Colts drive to Steve Myhra's tieing field goal in the last two minutes of regulation time in the 1958 NFL Championship Game should have been shown. The footage is available and has been used on other videos. The excellent bonus feature of the 1974 NFL Game of the Week production of the "Sea of Hands" game raised my rating of this DVD from 3 stars to 4.

Glee: 3d Concert Movie [Blu-ray]

Don't Stop Believin'!
If there's one thing Glee has taught me, even at 23, is to be who you are and don't ever change that for anyone. 'Glee Live! In Concert' was the 2nd tour by the memebers of the hit Fox show Glee: The Complete First Season. They perform the best of the best from the show. There are cute little vignettes in between songs talking about Janae, a dwarf, and how she deals with her "handicap" and Trenton, a gay kid who was outed unwillingly by his classmates; they share their stories. The staging is simple but the lighting and video screens make up the theatrics.

Although it's evident that the majority of the show is dubbed, that does not take away from the magic that is Glee. The members performed as a cast as well as solos- THE WARBLERS AND GWYNETH PALTROW MAKE APPEARANCES!!

The setlist is as follows:

1."Don't Stop Believin'" - Full cast
2."Dog Days Are Over" - Full cast...

Not the best live in concert DVD ever
First off, the cast did a great job performing at the concert (not that I actually went to a concert). It's just the way it's on the DVD that I'm not thrilled with.

To begin with, it's labeled as a "documentary" concert film. Meaning they do interviews with fans throughout the movie. I wouldn't mind a little bit of "my favorite character is..." at the beginning before the concert starts, but the constant back and forth throughout the movie is distracting from the concert, imo. The interviews with the cast should stay, but the ones with the fans should go (or at least go on the special features).

Another thing I found annoying is the fact that most of the songs on the DVD are not in the order they sang in the concert. Also, while Dog Days Are Over and Friday are on the DVD, they are only in the special features part, not in the actual movie. If the songs were good enough to be performed in concert, why were they not good enough to be on the live in concert...

What a waste of money
I purchased this DVD to watch Glee in concert not fans rabbiting on about how Glee had changed their lives. If I wanted that then Ryan should have made a DVD on fan's reactions to the show and concerts to purchase separately. So much great song material from all the episodes to date and we get just a handful on this DVD and some were even cut short. I had no chance to see many of the individuals that make up the talent that is Glee performing music from the series. All we got again was a handful of them. Talk about being ripped off. This was even worse that Glee Encore where at least all the songs were sung without breathless interruptions of "Oh my favorite Glee character is Kurt because he is so open about how he is gay and it gave me courage to deal with my sexuality" Ummmmm tell someone that gives a toss because I don't. All I wanted is the characters performing the songs they are now famous for and that definitely did not happen. Thumbs down big time. I wonder how many copies...

Colombiana (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]

Very good movie, saw it four times. . .
When this movie was in theater's, I saw this movie about four times.

It is not the greatest movie of all times, but it is very entertaining, and I do like the revenge flics, and Zoe Saldana did a very good job portraying the character, she had a good balance between revenge and her emotions over what she was doing, she was not the typical heartless killer. On par her character reminded me of Denzel Washington character from "Man on Fire", both characters balanced their revenge and their emotions with their revenge acts.

The movie could have been better, maybe more character development with the bad guys and her parents to fully understand the revenge, other than that she saw them killed in front of her.

I am hoping the unrated version will open up more story line to the film, if not, I will still enjoy the film.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to satisfy their revenge flic need, like Man on Fire, Man a Part, etc.

A shoot-em-up movie based on a young girl's desire for revenge!
Young 10 year old Cataleya witnesses the murder of her father and mother at the hands of a vicious drug cartel leader and his assassins. The murder was caused by her father's wish to leave the cartel and start a new life with his family. Before her father is murdered he gives his young daughter a memory chip and tells her where to go in case something happens and to give the man the chip and tell him that it is her passport.

Cataleya (A name for a local Columbian orchid) escapes by attacking the man who helped kill her family and winds up in Chicago living with her uncle and his mom. He is a ruthless criminal also and she tells him that she wants to grow up to be a professional killer. He teaches her that anyone can be a killer and stupid and get caught but she must go to school, learn, be trained and become the best to be able to always get away.

Thus starts the saga of Cataleya's life and her goal to find and avenge her family's murder by killing the men...

Fun Ride With a Solid Cast
Fun Fast Ride With a Solid Cast. Enjoy it for what it is; a Nikita-type revenge flick. But it is a good one. Every role is cast well and acted well. The story itself is a good new twist on a classic revenge genre, and the pace is good. Even though at first I thought they spent too much time developing the little girl [our young protagonist] after watching the movie, it was actually the perfect length.

Fun and hard with just enough humanity in the story.

I was actually shocked by the negative reviews here and on iTunes.

Great flick well worth the rental.

Blackthorn

"Blackthorn" - Good, but not great
One reviewer's blurb said: "A classic old-fashioned western, every bit as good as 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'." It is neither. It should not even be compared to that film since it's only marginally in the same genre.

There are many good things about "Blackthorn" -- Sam Shepard's acting, for instance. The scenery is also excellent, albeit dully colored. I would have chosen a better film stock. Most of the colors seemed drab and lifeless to me. That may be partially due to the generally overcast skies that were the norm in Bolivia - at least that appears to be the case when they were shooting this film. But I believe that either the film they used did not reproduce the colors well or there was something wrong with the projector at the theater in which I saw it. Yet even with the lack of color saturation, there were some spectacular vistas as our hero made his way across the country. The director made excellent use of the widescreen format.

Another...

Pleasantly surprised...
Surprised. Not by Shepard, who I've long thought is one of our great under-appreciated leading men, but by the story, the style and feel of the movie. I think I loved it. I've read some critics have called it "slow".....absolutely, its what I call a "slow burner." Not every story needs to move like a freight train.

There are a lot of ways the writer and director could have screwed this up, in just my opinion they dodged all the bullets. Like so many people I have a long term love affair with "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," so any movie taking a stab at sequel-ing that is running on dangerous ground. But they pulled it off.

If you like sweeping scenery, genuine-feeling westerns, GREAT acting (Shepard is beyond perfect all the way to amazing) those are all reasons enough to watch Blackthorn. I paid $9.99 to watch "before its in the theaters," and it was definitely worth it for me.

Great Western
Well done in all respects. The scenery is fantastic, acting is excellent, story is great, and everything works. It will pull you in and keep your attention like a good book.

Really liked this one. Try it, I think you'll like it.

Dolphin Tale [Blu-ray]

WONDERFUL!! Will walk away feeling this movie..
Just wanted to take a moment out to say a few words about this film. I do not go to movie theaters much due to their costs ever rising. I usually wait for dvd anymore. This one we actually did go see on the big screen. My 5 yr old wanted to see it. I took her and my mother to go see it and we ALL loved it. It will make you laugh, and cheer and even get teary eyed. It is not super depressing like some animal films. Instead it shows hope, courage, faith and perseverance and how people can come together and make things happen through trials. Great cast, cute movie. Best part is it is based on a true story. so cool. We will be buying this one when it comes out for sure!! I highly recommend this movie to anyone, kids or no kids..

An inspirational, feel good movie for the entire family!
My husband and I took our first-grader to watch this beautiful, uplifting movie this past weekend and had the most wonderful time. When the movie ended, the audience broke out in spontaneous applause, that's how much this movie affected all of us. Dolphin Tale is the story of overcoming the odds, of love between family and love among friends, and of courage and resilience.

Set in Clearwater, Florida and inspired by a true story (yes, there is a real Winter the Dolphin!), the story centers on a young boy Sawyer (Nathan Gamble in a finely nuanced performance) who is portrayed as being despondent at the beginning of the movie - he is sad that his cousin,Kyle (Austin Stowell) a champion swimmer is going away to serve the country as a soldier. Kyle is Sawyer's role model and mentor, and the closest thing he has to a 'dad' figure given his own father left the family when he was very young. Sawyer's mom, Lorraine (Ashely Judd) tries her best to cope and provide for Sawyer, but she...

A well-crafted tale that everyone can enjoy
Dolphin Tale is, first and foremost, a great family movie. What I mean by that is that everyone - kids and adults alike - can enjoy it and never feel either bored or like they're being talked down to. A lot of craftsmanship went into the making of this movie and it shows, mainly in how seamlessly it flows and how well everything fits together.

The movie centers around the true story of Winter, a young bottlenose dolphin found on a beach in coastal Florida whose tail was injured and ended up having to be amputated. The humans taking care of Winter ultimately had to create a prosthetic tail in order for her to survive, and in the process she became an inspiration to many, from children who were born missing a limb to veterans who had lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In Dolphin Tale, the plot begins with Sawyer (Nathan Gamble), a young boy who's been withdrawn ever since his father left the family five years earlier and who's having to deal with his older cousin...

Warrior

This War Is Not in an MMA Cage
Except for the lack of a SPOILER note at the beginning of the first reviewer, I think these first two reviews pretty much cover the story and hit some high points of the film. I do want to disagree with some of the remarks, though.

First, I would not call this a sports movie. It is not Rocky, Raging Bull, The Wrestler, or The Fighter. Warrior, according to many professional critics, is better than all of them, and I agree. There is the suspense factor of who will win the championship fight, for sure, and the stand-up-and-cheer factor as the opponents are picked off one by one, and there is the heartwarming factor as the school teacher tries to save his home from foreclosure. These cliches somehow are not relevant to this film and I salute O'Connor and the other writers for telling a story that glosses over them.

As some reviewers have pointed out, this film is not really about MMA (mixed martial arts) winners and losers. Like others, I had never heard of MMA...

Best sports film I have ever seen
I went to an advanced screening (my first) and I must feel the need to brag about how lucky I was to see it a week before everyone else has. The film itself is......wow. There really aren't that many films that make you feel like you are actually living the life of another individual alongside that person or persons, but this film does! The writing is absolutely great and realistic, with the characters' dialogue ingraining itself in your memory for days to come. It also paints an amazing and provoking story. Tommy Riordan (Tom Hardy) is a war hero who has just returned from service and looks to enter a MMA tournament, the prize of which is $5 million. At first, it appears that the reason he is doing this is just for pure activity and for fun, but it is eventually revealed that he wants to donate his prize to support the wife and children of his slain war buddy. The man has got some raw talent, due to the fact that his father, Paddy Conlon (Nick Nolte) trained him in wrestling and...

Freaking Fantastic-A Must See!!!
I loved this movie! This is the best movie I have seen in a long time. Not only are the fight scenes incredibly exicting, but the family drama is very moving. I cried during this film more than once. I think I am a little in love with Tom Hardy now. Nick Nolte, Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton all gave Oscar Worthy performances.

Tommy (Hardy) and Brendan (Edgerton) are estranged brothers who both enter the same MMA Tournament. Tommy is an ex-Marine, an Iraq War hero, fighting for a fallen brother and Brendan is a married Physics Teacher fighting to keep a roof over his family's head. They have an ex-alcoholic, ex-abusive father that they both dislike who caused heartache and a terrible childhood for both of them. Their father, played by Nick Nolte (incredible performance)tries like hell to make it up to both of them and becomes Tommy's trainer. Their past mistakes and regrets all come to a head in the arena.

This is a beautiful and moving story about love and...

Saint Nick

best christmas horror movie in a long time
I just purchased this from Amazon. Too bad it arrived right after Christmas cuz I was wanting to view it before then. When I did get to see it with a friend, we were both pleasently surprised to how good it was. It wasn't the greatest film, but so much better than all the other Christmas type horror films that were released, with the exception of Silent Night, Deadly Night 1-5 (I liked those). If you want a decent entertaining holiday horror to watch, then this is the one for you. None of the other Christmas ones were any good, especially Slaughter Claus (STAY FAR AWAY FROM SLAUGHTER CLAUS!!!!!). SLAUGHTER CLAUS ON DVD IS AWFUL! I SOLD IT RIGHT AFTER VIEWING IT!

Good Ol' St. Nick!
Here in the "States" we have Jason Vorhees, Michael Meyers, and Freddy Kruger as our "never-can-be-killed" maniacs. Now it's time for you to be introduced to Amsterdam's main nemisis: Saint Nick.

This movie is so enjoyable because it doesn't take itself seriously. The story is based on the legend of Saint Nick and his evil men robbing, pillaging, and murdering since 1492. I thought that date was intruiging because that is also the date Columbus set sail for America, but I digress. Anyway, after Saint Nick and his "Black Petes" have caused quite an uproar in the village, they head back for their ship. However, the townspeople are one step ahead of them, sitting fire to the ship and supposedly killing all that's aboard. Flash-forward 476 years (nudge, nudge; wink, wink), and the boys are back in town killing all but one in a family, who witnesses the slaughter, and goes on to become a detective with a vow to make sure this never happens again. This is where it got a...

Fun Christmas Slasher
I watched this on Fios on demand and it was a fun, entertaining Holiday Slasher/comedy..
It is in dutch so I'm sure you will have the option of subtitles or the dubbed version,I always recommend the original sound with Subtitles.
It starts off with the legend of Saint Nickolaus and how he and what 'they call' black Pete's whom are a few of his men are pillaging a village by going on a murderous spree and stealing children that were supposed to be bad in like 1683 AD..The townsfolk have had enough so they sneak up on Saint Nick's camp on the banks of the water and slaughter he and all the Black Pete's then burn them in their schooner. Then it flashes to 1968 and almost an entire family is slaughtered by the disfigured ghost/demon of Saint Nickolaus, but one boy survives and then they cut to the present time and the boy is all grown up and ready to make sure saint Nick and his Black Pete's don't do any more damage.Supposedly Saint Nick can only kill and steal bad children on...
